Revolutionizing Poultry Farming: A Leap Towards Sustainable Biosecurity

  • Innovate UK awards £50,000 grant to a project aiming to advance biosecurity in the poultry market.
  • Funding will support the innovative project which is designed to improve poultry mortality rates and increase output while reducing water and chemical use.
  • This prestigious award is part of Innovate UK’s “Unlocking Potential” initiative, a testament to Residual Barrier Technology’s (RBT) commitment to advancing biosecurity, sustainability, and affordability within the poultry industry.
  • Based in Daventry, RBT is a developer, formulator and manufacturer of innovative biodegradable hygiene and infection control solutions.

Christine Brander, Founder & Executive Chair of RBT, secured the funding to support the development of innovative new technology designed to improve biosecurity in the poultry sector. Building on the success of Innovate UK’s targeted programmes such as Women in Innovation, this latest Unlocking Potential funding is designed to find and support the fresh innovation talent the UK needs.

The awarded project, “Improving Biosecurity, Sustainability, and Affordability in the Poultry Sector,” aims to address key challenges in the industry, including UK food security and food poverty. Following achievements in our overseas markets, the project will adapt the technology to suit the UK poultry sector. By introducing innovative solutions that are better for the environment, RBT is set to significantly reduce water and chemical usage in poultry farming, making strides towards a more sustainable future. The initiative also aims to improve yields and poultry health while reducing biosecurity costs.

At the heart of this initiative is Protectus Air, RBT’s groundbreaking dry nebulising technology which simplifies disinfection protocols by safely emitting dry nebules into buildings, disinfecting both indoor surfaces and the air. It can be used while chickens and people are present. Designed to protect poultry health while minimising environmental impact, Protectus Air represents a significant advancement in the field, offering a biodegradable, cost-effective solution that promises to increase poultry farming output without compromising on biosecurity or sustainability.

This initiative underscores RBT’s position at the forefront of AgriTech, climate tech, and sustainability, reaffirming its role as a science-led innovator dedicated to enhancing global hygiene and infection control practices. Through this project, RBT aims to set new standards in the poultry sector, contributing to a healthier planet and a more secure food supply.
